Library to Receive Grant from Community Foundation Grey Bruce

The West Grey Public Library is receiving a grant from Community Foundation Grey Bruce through a donation from the Eva Leflar Donor Advised Endowed Fund. The funding is earmarked for programs and resources to benefit young children and families.

West Grey Public Library Events

(DURHAM 12 September 2018)  In October, the West Grey Public Library will mark Ontario Library Week with activities to bring to mind the role of books and other library resources – including the people there! – in your life.

First, the Library is looking for local residents to submit brief accounts of how the public library – West Grey or other libraries – has positively affected their lives.  Accounts of childhood memories in the library, helpful library staff or volunteers, programs that were particularly meaningful, book club experiences, help with research or finding jobs, people you met through the library or any other description of ways in which their local library has had a positive effect.  Contributions may be sent to sarah@westgreylibrary.com by October 5, 2018.

And all branches will invite patrons and visitors to be “spine poets” – participants line up books so their titles (on the spines) make a poem, sentence or story.  Each addition changes the direction of the piece – nobody knows where it will end up!  Visit West Grey Library branches during Ontario Public Library Week (October 14 to 20) for chances to win prize books!

Perhaps you’ve noticed tiny little libraries on posts out and around West Grey.   Part of a world-wide movement, Little Libraries are a simple idea:  leave books that you no longer want in an appealing little shelter, and someone else is welcome to take that book and contribute a book or two of their own.  These Little Libraries encourage reading, sharing and re-cycling.  In this session on Tuesday, October 16, Little Library builder Jennifer Hart discusses this initiative, along with tips on how to build and install your own.  Pre-registration required – call 519.369.2107 or drop into Durham Branch to register.

For more information, contact your local branch. In West Grey: Durham and Elmwood Resource Centre (519-369-2107), Ayton (519-665-2342) and Neustadt (519-799-5830).
